Tech Edge 3.0 presentations were kicked off by a keynote from Austin McChord, founder of Datto. While many in the room may not have heard of Austin prior to Tech Edge, they definitely will not forget him now.
Austin told the story of creating Datto in his parent’s basement because he wanted an Audi R8 supercar. With pictures documenting the progress of the company, from the early years of boxes for monitor stands and Legos to make product, to the current state of hundreds of petabytes of data. The story was inspirational to all who attended. You can take a simple idea, engage your passion of technology and bring tenacity to the marketplace that can lead to the $100 million dollar offer that Austin turned down to take care of the people of Datto.
While Austin does not have that R8 yet, he has grown the company to more than 650 people and was at the top of Forbes "2015 30 Under 30" among the rising stars of enterprise technology. Many attendees had a chance to connect with Austin as he was available throughout the conference.
Breakout sessions continue to provide high value to all attendees. From learning how to get to a zero inbox in email to learning about the newest devices available, there was lots of education and hands-on experience. New this year was sessions on marketing and digital advertising.
The close that everyone always looks for is Prize-A-Palooza, where over $15,000 in prizes are given away in less than 15 minutes. From laptops, Ultrabooks, to drones and the best tech devices available, it was lots of fun and definitely exciting.
