It is that time of year where you sit down and review 2016 and evaluate how it went. Overall, I had a successful year. From growing as a leader to gaining new skills, it was very productive. Where I missed the mark is fun. The question I began to ask myself is can you have a successful year if you didn’t have fun? I believe the answer is No.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my job and the people around me. My focus on getting the job done really became a task-oriented focus. I probably won’t remember the tasks I completed, however I will remember the fun I had. So my New Year’s resolution is to have more fun in 2017. How exactly will I get that done?
- Food. I am going to make some strategic dessert deliveries to the office and engage those around me in enjoying the treat and learning more about those I work with.
- Pranks. To be honest I have been known to go a bit far on these (Just ask my wife about the times the cops had me in front of the house with the “Let me see your hands”). I will do my best to make them small, such as the Google Easter Egg “askew”. Just type “askew” into the Google browser and the screen will be tilted a bit. (Close the browser and all goes back to normal)
- Meetings Off Site. When the weather gets a bit warmer I am going to move some of our small meetings to a park bench so we can enjoy the beautiful day.
- Acts of Kindness. Just small deeds throughout the year to make someone’s day.
Most days I spend more time with those at work then my family. In 2017, I am going to focus to make not only my day better, but theirs also. Join me in bringing the fun back.
