For several years now, I have heard customers tell me over and over that they are really not too concerned about their voice and data cabling infrastructure. Here are some of the common statements I hear.
“We really don’t need hard-wired Ethernet, most of our users are wireless.” I guess they forgot what the wireless access points are plugged into.
“We just rewired the building when we moved in back in 2003.” Ok, so you're saying your cabling is 15 years old?
“We don’t purchase patch cables, our IT guy just makes them for us.” I don’t even know where to start with this one.
“Our cabling is working fine for what we are doing.” Are you sure?
These are just a few of the many topics of discussion we have with clients on a pretty regular basis. The point is, most customers do not place that much emphasis on the most key component of their voice, video, data and even security network. Too often the focus is just on one technology, instead of implementing and managing a common infrastructure platform that can handle, not only the data network users, but also VoIP phones, wireless LAN devices, security cameras, access control devices and even conference room audio and video connections. We at Nex-Tech definitely understand this. Laptops need upgraded, servers need replaced and firewalls always need updated. Spending money on cabling is not always at the top of the list, but it should be.
With performance and PoE (Power over Ethernet) properties and characteristics ever-changing, IT professionals can find themselves with an outdated infrastructure sooner than they think. Nex-Tech deals with customers on a regular basis who want to launch new devices or enhanced technologies, only to find out that their cabling can’t handle it. The fact is that a properly installed, twisted pair infrastructure that is tested, labeled, certified and warrantied can go a long way towards helping any organization to deploy new technology devices easily and successfully.
